instacopycat

BFF Allison does this fun reoccurring post on her blog called “instalife” and it’s always my favorite to see glimpses into her world so I decided to copy her. Also it’s sort of a rule of thumb for me that if Allison does it, I want to because she’s just like, the most cool, you guys. So here’s some (fairly) recent pics from the life and times.

picstitch-2picstitch.1so briefly, and I’m sure elaboration will follow in days to come, I’ve enjoyed:

Sunshine
Birthday parties for one of my most favorite boys
NOLA and catching up with my dear Andrea
Path Project
Fresh ink
Luminous (& co.)

April was a fun month. And May has begun with a bang!

the bird’s nest. or “A Post for Mrs. Alice”

the following post is dedicated to Mrs. Alice, of  Allison and Ray Hancock, because she likes it when i rant about hair and she loves me despite the mess mine always is, and she would’ve let me wear a hippie headband at her wedding.

So we’ve been here before, where we talk about hair envy and hairtastrophes, et cetera (welcome to the blog, Latin, thanks for making us fancy), but I think it’s again time to discuss it.

Here’s how I feel about hair in general; I like it. I think that hair is practical because it both keeps your head from looking a mess from frostbite or lopsidedness and it’s the quickest way to judge a book by its cover, which we all know is terrible and absolutely condoned by moi. I feel that the first reasons are very clear-frostbite I’m sure is quite painful and the second, well, we’ve all seen that one bald person whose head looks like it was molded out of jello-y clay…not ok, sir. (is that completely mean? probably.) If I haven’t lost you yet with my harsh spirit devoid of sympathy for the hair challenged, I think we can all agree with my third point. Don’t pretend you don’t judge people by their hair, you do. It’s the reason the Biebs chopped all his off and J-Lo has kept hers the same for the last 20 years and also the same reason I want Tina Turner hair circa Proud Mary 1971  to compete with lions in the african plain  …to look cool.

Let’s try out my theory. What does the following picture say to you?

goin’ to the chapel

I have this friend, and she’s getting married; I am excited. Since most people who read my blog are people I see at lesat bi-weekly and almost none of you know her, I thought it would be fun to introduce you to her.

Her name is Allison Demott, and she is the coolest. I met Allison when I worked for Fuge camps at Mississippi College in 2009. This is what we looked like:

We weren’t roomates, but on day number one, she embraced and comforted a confused and extremely nervous girl, so eventually I became her honorary roomate (those suite mates made me laugh and let me cry and approved my clothing before worship every night).

Allison loves the Lord so much, and she has been such an encouragement to me, not only that summer, but ever since then. We love Gail, and vintage, and turquoise, and the NOLA, and site babies, and starbucks, and our sisters. (ijustlovehersomuch!!!)

This is what we looked like when I went to visit her in FL before camp 2010.

And when she came by my site in KY during camp 2010.

And this is what she and that sweet boy of hers look like:

(yes I creeped on her profile for this one)

I cannot wait until #alirayweddingextravaganza2011 (I get to wear a dress that I will for real wear again. and again. and again). And I know that everything will be the most adorable (just like she is). We are soul sisters all the way. Twinsies.

P.S. You should be her friend too; I’ll help you- twitter. blog.

The Bag Lady

Inspired by my friend Allison, this is what’s in my bag:

The Blackberry. I usually lose it in the bag because I kind of hate being reachable.
The keys. with the ‘It’s all good’ keychain that is almost entirely disintegrated.
The Sunglasses. mnnn. aviators are always number one in my book.
The jump drive, sharpies, nail file, and bobby pins. essential for surviving school that I will no longer be attending. depression.
My notebook. full of ideas, sketches, lists, and moody poetry.
Wallet. stuffed with giftcards currently. hey graduation, hey.
A book. always, and yes I am so ashamed that I am just now reading this one.
Reusable shopping bag. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
GermX and gluten free ibuprofen. because sometimes living near people is gross and challenging.
Camera. Everyone loves a good memory.
And the Ipod, shine sheets, ear buds, eye drops, chapstick , compact mirror.
Clearly, I am prepared for absolutely everything. Orrrrr, my bag is way too big. Whatevs.

All you need is Love

Emphasized by one of my favorite Beatles songs, and definitely the one thing I’m loving this week : I Love being loved. Sometimes I feel lonely, I think it’s because all my friends have schedules just as crazy as mine, and I feel like that whole out of sight, out of mind thing kicks in, but there are a few people who no matter how sparingly I see them, always manage to make me feel loved. I love them every second of every day, but today I think they deserve a special mention.Sweet Allison has been my constant support since I met her. Literally two minutes after ever talking to or seeing her, she was easing my fears and making me laugh with her charm and wit. She and I talk a lot, even though I haven’t seen her months (Please come on May), and I absolutely adore her!

Emily here, has been my best friend for years and years now, and even though we’ve both grown a lot, nothing has ever changed our friendship. She too is such an encouragement. She’s good at advice, one of the best examples of a Godly woman that I know, and I don’t think she could be mean if you tried to make her. Thank God for a friend who can make it all better when it’s bad.

And my lovely newly(ish)wed Kimberly. She has grown so much in the past year, and she’s always willing to lift me up to the Lord, and help me when I need anything. She makes me laugh, and honestly, she probably knows me better than I know myself. She understands who I am because she was there when I was becoming this person. Without her, geez, let’s not go there.

And then there’s my sweet Reagan who makes me feel so loved, every time we make eye contact. I cannot imagine my life without this sweet girl. BFF4E.

I love these girls so much. And I love being loved by them. I know I’ve been talking about it a lot, but graduation is kind of a big deal, and in such an emotional time when I’m tempted to feel like no one really understands or that I’m alone, I have these girls who lift my spirit and remind me of who I am. Mnnn. Love, I love it.

my life as jenna

So it’s “Spring Break” here in my life, and as you [hopefully] have discerned, Spring Break is in quotation marks. This is because I don’t consider what is happening this week a break at all. Here’s what my “break” is looking like.

  • Work all day every day this week. walking about 4 miles worth of circles all day long. and paper cuts. my feet hurt.
  • Schoolwork…at some point. a couple hundred pages of literature. one big paper. one little paper.
  • Working out. (in case you weren’t aware, plyometrics is all kinds of death, and if my body didn’t have the same consistency as cottage cheese, I would never ever attempt them. However, it is at this point in my life absolutely necessary)

I don’t want this whole post to be depressing though so I think I’ll share what I would do if I could do whatever I wanted.

Go visit Allison. and Andrea. and Sarah.

Shop in Miami.

Lay on the beach in Brazil.

I’ve been to the Copacabana before, see:

Clearly these are lofty dreams, and that’s probably why I’m here working instead, but it’s okay. Tonight I’m going to get Chinese with my mom and watch Shakespeare for school. I’m so cool. A post with more substance tomorrow most likely, and then One Thing I Love Thursday!

If Only, If Only.

So my friend Allison (super precious, creative blogger extraordinaire) does this thing sometimes where she shares her celebrity crushes. I saw a wonderful and beautifully heart-breaking movie called Bright Star Friday, and it got me thinking of some of the poets I would’ve loved to love. That in turn inspired me to follow in her footsteps and share one of my celebrity boyfriends. Unfortunately he’s a bit dead, but he’s so good looking, and talented. He also kind of had a crazy hazy dramatic reputation, but I think he would’ve been irresistible. I present to you, George Gordon Lord Byron.

And if you’re not completely head-over-heels for him yet, here’s a breath-taking poem.
“She Walks in Beauty”
She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that ‘s best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellow’d to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impair’d the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o’er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.
And on that cheek, and o’er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!
